Our homeless bus is moving and we need to create a kitchen/diner for our residents in the small brick building on the new site.
Over 5,000 nights of safe, warm sleep so far
Based on a double decker bus, our small charity provides a temporary home and one-to-one support, giving a route out of homelessness to desperate people. People like Tony who is 73 years old and had been sleeping on the streets for 18 months before he became a guest of The Bus Shelter MK. "Home" is in a former band bus, which has transported crews for stars like Robbie Williams and Rob Stewart all around Europe. We opened in March 2018, and since then we have accommodated 57 people, usually for around three months, while we help them regain their health, find work and move into sustainable housing. And Tony? He is now living happily in a sheltered flat for the elderly.
We need a new kitchen
We have to move to a new location by September 2020. We are trying to raise £1,000 so that we can create a kitchen/dining room in a disused storage building on the new site.
We have a wonderful team of volunteer cooks who ensure that the guests can enjoy a healthy and tasty meal in a communal setting every evening. This is a big part of building a supportive community and getting people back to good health, so having a properly equipped kitchen/diner will be essential for our new, long term home.
£1,000 will go a long way towards creating a workable and pleasant cooking and eating space for our guests to enjoy. With your help we can make this happen!
