£50,000 to Go: Help UnityMK Move Home and Keep Vital Crisis and Recovery Services Running for People Facing Homelessness in Milton Keynes

£50,000 to go: Help UnityMK move home

Help us complete our new Support Centre and protect vital homelessness services in Milton Keynes.

We’re 90% of the way there. We’ve secured £450,000 of the £500,000 we need to complete this phase of our new Support Centre in Wolverton.

Now we need your help to raise the final £50,000 and get us over the line.

And thanks to Aviva match funding, your donation could be doubled while match funds are available.

Why we need your help

UnityMK is the only walk-in homelessness support service in Milton Keynes, providing practical help, advice and hope to people who are homeless or at risk of losing their home.

But we need to move.

Our current home at the Old Bus Station is due to be redeveloped and we need to relocate our day services by spring 2027.

We already have our new home: a 10,000 sq ft former railway training centre in Wolverton. Much of the hard work has been done, but we need to raise the final £50,000 to complete this phase of the refurbishment and enable us to move in.

Your donation can help make that happen.

More than a building

Our new Support Centre will give people facing homelessness somewhere safe and welcoming to turn when they need help.

A place to have a hot meal, shower and wash their clothes.

A place to talk to someone about housing, benefits or debt.

A place to access counselling, healthcare and specialist support.

And, importantly, a place to get the practical help and skills they need to move forward and build a more stable future.

The new centre will include:

  • Showers, laundry and clothing facilities
  • A welcoming kitchen and dining area
  • Private rooms for welfare advice, counselling and healthcare
  • Housing, benefits and financial wellbeing support
  • Training and life-skills spaces
  • Room for our partner organisations to provide specialist support

It will also give us more space to focus on prevention - helping people with housing, money and other challenges before they reach crisis point.

Why it matters

Around 2,700 adults and children in Milton Keynes were living in emergency or temporary accommodation in June 2025, while around 50 people are currently known to be sleeping rough locally.

But homelessness isn't always visible.

Every week we meet people who are sleeping rough, sofa surfing, living in insecure accommodation or facing the very real possibility of losing their home.

UnityMK provides immediate practical support while helping people address the issues that brought them to us and take steps towards a secure home and greater independence.

Your support makes a real difference

Over the last year, our support has helped:

  • More than 30 people maintain their tenancies
  • 22 people obtain ID and open bank accounts
  • 364 food bank parcels reach people who needed them

And every day, our team helps people navigate housing, benefits, debt, health and other challenges that can make escaping homelessness so difficult.

Your donation isn't simply helping us refurbish a building. It's helping protect that support for the future.

Where your donation will go

Thanks to the generosity of trusts and foundations, Government, corporate and community supporters, local businesses and our own reserves, we have already secured around £450,000.

We have also received significant donations of building materials and expertise from organisations including BAM and CRASH, helping us make every pound go further.

The final £50,000 will help us complete the work needed to make the Support Centre ready for our guests, volunteers and staff.

This includes final work and equipment for areas such as:

  • Reception and entrance
  • Guest showers and toilets
  • Kitchen and dining area
  • Security and external lighting
  • Office and support spaces
  • Final decorating, fittings and finishing work

Help us get over the line

We are so close.

£450,000 secured. £50,000 to go.

You can help in two ways:

Donate - every gift, whatever the size, takes us another step towards opening the doors of our new home. And with Aviva match funding, your donation could be doubled while funds are available.

Share - tell your friends, family, colleagues and networks about our campaign. The more people who know about it, the greater our chance of reaching that final £50,000.

Help us create our new home and protect vital homelessness services for our city.
