Sadeh is a farm where people can care for the land together

Sadeh is a community farm and environmental education centre in Kent, rooted in Jewish land-based traditions and open to people of all faiths and none. On our seven-acre farm, our team of farmers and educators brings people together through food growing, volunteering, environmental education, communal meals and residential programmes.  We believe that one of the most powerful ways to respond to the climate and biodiversity crises is to help people build a relationship with the land and give them practical ways to care for it.
Our farm is a place to step away from screens and busy everyday life, get your hands in the soil, work alongside other people and learn by doing. We grow food, restore habitats and create spaces where people can experience the natural world directly.

Community Nature Stewards

We want to build on this work through Community Nature Stewards, a year-long programme of 24 full-day volunteer days bringing people together to actively care for our seven acres.

Across the seasons, volunteers will work alongside our farming and education team on practical projects including:
- planting native trees and hedgerows
- caring for our orchard and food-growing spaces
- maintaining wildflower meadows
- creating and maintaining habitats for wildlife
- pond and biodiversity work
- making dead hedges and other habitat structures
- composting and soil care
- seed saving and food growing
- harvesting and preserving produce

Each day will combine practical work, learning and a shared community meal.

We know from our experience at Sadeh that people connect differently when they are outside, working with their hands and sharing food. A day spent planting trees together can create conversations and friendships that wouldn't necessarily happen in a classroom or community hall.

Taking climate action together

Climate change and biodiversity loss can feel enormous and overwhelming. We want to give people practical ways to respond.
Community Nature Stewards will help restore habitats and increase biodiversity across Sadeh's seven acres, while giving participants skills they can take home and use elsewhere. Through workshops and hands-on work, people will learn about regenerative growing, composting, seed saving, habitat restoration, soil health and sustainable food systems.

We want people to leave knowing more about environmental issues and feeling more confident that they can do something about them.

The project will also help us learn. We will monitor participation, collect feedback and evaluate the environmental and social outcomes of the programme, helping us understand what works and develop Community Nature Stewards into an ongoing programme in future years.

Making the programme accessible

We want people from a wide range of backgrounds, identities and abilities to be able to take part.  Our volunteer days will be open to local residents, schools, community groups and individuals, including people who have limited access to green space and people who are underrepresented in environmental spaces. We will provide the tools and materials people need and, where necessary, support access to the farm through transport from the nearest station and subsidised participation. Sadeh's Jewish values inform our relationship with the land, but you do not need to be Jewish or have any religious knowledge to take part. Our environmental and community activities welcome people of all faiths and none.

What your donation will make possible

Your donation will help us provide the staff time, plants, trees, seeds, tools, irrigation and habitat materials needed to deliver a full year of practical environmental work. It will also help us provide a shared meal at every volunteer day, environmental workshops and learning materials, accessible transport and participation support, and the monitoring and evaluation needed to develop the programme for future years.

A donation doesn't just pay for a tool or a tree. It helps create a day when people come together, learn something new, restore a piece of habitat and share food around a table.
