Supporting young people who have faced adversity to build confidence and self-esteem. Empowering them to own and shape their futures.
Who are we, and what is our project about?
Embrace: People – Futures – Change is a social enterprise based in Norfolk supporting people in our community primarily through coaching, but also ongoing support, mentoring and signposting. We strongly believe that everyone deserves a chance to shine and to have the future they want and deserve. We have the strap line ‘Supporting you to become the best version of you’, with the main aim to support people who are perceived to be or feel marginalised or disadvantaged within the community to be the best they can be.
Why are we crowdfunding?
Supporting young people who've faced adversity and either are already NEET or are at risk of becoming NEET (Not in education, employment or training) to take control of their financial futures, by building confidence, self-esteem and reducing anxiety which will support them to stay in education, employment or training, or feel able to access it or re-engage. Being NEET is one of the strongest predictors of long-term financial insecurity and poverty, lower lifetime earnings, higher risk of long-term unemployment, higher risk of long-term mental health problems further reducing financial security. With low confidence and self-esteem along with high anxiety being strong predictors of becoming NEET, and being able to help young people stay in, or access education, employment and training, by supporting them with their confidence and self-esteem, and reducing anxiety are key factors in predicating future financial security. These skills are vital in creating future financially stability and independence, to enable them to create a different future, one where they are safe, independent and have options and escape the poverty trap.
How we’ll spend the money raised
Helping young people to overcome adversity and become confident and resilient, so that they can create the future they deserve, one which was taken away from them through circumstance. Supporting them to stay in or access training, education or the work place in a sustainable way, so that they can become financially resilient and independent. We will do this through a combination of delivering a series of group coaching sessions and bespoke 121 programs with a minimum of 6 sessions.
Group sessions cover a range of topics over the weeks including: confidence, self-esteem, communication skills, boundaries and assertiveness, managing change and building resilience and visioning for the future, CV writing, interview skills and next steps. 121 sessions will cover similar topics, however in a way which is more tailored to the individual. Whether it be through the group programs or the 121 sessions, we believe that supporting these young people to rebuild confidence, self-esteem and self-belief and supporting them to elevate their thinking and confidence in their thinking, along with developing good communication skills will further support them in fulfilling their personal and financial goals, and ability to build a future with these vital life skills.
Research suggests increased confidence and self-esteem, lead to greater ability to make positive financial decisions and display greater deliberate thinking, greater self-efficacy and ability to carry through decisions, to budget effectively and greater access to employment opportunities, with career progression.
For these young people who have faced or are facing adversity, being able to stay in or access education and or training, or being able to enter the workplace and maintain employment enables them to take control of their financial futures, providing them with choice so they can create a different future, without these vital skills and support that may not be an option to them, which will negatively impact their future, being able to gain the skills and knowledge to be financially secure and independent is the thing which gives these young people a chance for a different life.
