Aim

Leeds Baby Bank can provide advice, support and education for families with young children to escape poverty. For good.

Who are we, and what is our project about?

LBB has been providing crisis intervention for families living in poverty for nine years. Our move to a new, bigger home last year allows us to begin empowering families to escape poverty long-term. At our new Community Hub we will deliver support, advice and education to tackle financial exclusion - which research shows is a barrier to escaping poverty.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We can’t ignore the rising levels of poverty in Leeds: more than 1 in 3 babies, children and young people in our city are living in relative poverty. That's nearly 63,000 children - and it’s increasing annually.

Leeds Baby Bank is well-placed to help families overcome some of the barriers holding them back, one of which is financial exclusion. We will work with partners to deliver drop-ins, coffee mornings, one-to-ones and group sessions which:

- improve skills in household budget management;

- guide people through opening a bank account and safely banking online;

- provide advice about benefits and guide families through online portals;

- advise on fuel debt, energy tariff checks and energy efficiency.

Advice and education will be delivered in an informal, family-friendly and non-judgemental way, ensuring everyone has an opportunity to benefit.

The whole family will feel the benefit of financial inclusion, and we focus especially on those with children aged 0-5. Families are from diverse ethnic backgrounds and communities right across Leeds, including asylum seekers, teenage parents, and families experiencing homelessness, domestic abuse, addiction, and other crisis situations.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Leeds Baby Bank relies entirely on fundraising. Your gift could help us offer a warm, safe, family-friendly environment for our group and one-to-one session, and fund the expert advice and guidance of our support worker.

£2,000 to help heat and light the group and one-to-one rooms and contribute to our unavoidable rent and rates costs for one year

£2,000 gap in funding our part-time staff member who organises Hub activities and works with families.

If we can raise even more money, it could fund the following:

£1,500 can help cover the cost of additional laptops or tablets for one-to-one financial inclusion support.

£250 refreshments for families attending for one year.

How you can help

There are three simple ways to get involved and support our project:

1. Make a donation

Every pledge gets us closer to our goal. Early support can help build momentum and inspire others to give too.

2. Spread the word

Share our project with friends, family and your wider network. The more people we reach, the more likely we are to succeed.

3. Volunteer with us

If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch through the ‘Contact’ section using the subject "I want to volunteer my time or expertise" on our project page.
