Who are we, and what is our project about?

Growing Together Playground Development is a parent led initiative supporting Viewlands Primary School in Perth. Our goal is to transform the school’s outdated playground into a safe, inclusive, and sustainable outdoor space that can be enjoyed by both pupils and the wider community.

Currently, the playground consists mainly of tarmac and sloped grass, with limited opportunities for accessible play, outdoor learning, or connection with nature. We want to create a space shaped by the needs and interests of children, while also supporting local families and community wellbeing.

Our project aligns with Climate Action by creating greener, nature-rich spaces that encourage biodiversity, outdoor learning, environmental awareness, and stronger connections with nature.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Before we can begin transforming the playground, we need a professional consultation and site assessment from Learning through Landscapes, the UK’s leading school grounds charity.

This consultation will allow experts to work with children, staff, and the wider school community to understand their needs and create a detailed vision and development plan for the space. It is the crucial first step in ensuring the project is inclusive, sustainable, and designed to deliver long-term benefits for future generations.

By funding this consultation, you will help us move from ideas to action and bring us one step closer to creating a greener, healthier, and more welcoming community space.

How we’ll spend the money raised

We are raising £990 to cover:

    ●    Full-day Learning through Landscapes consultation: £655 + VAT

    ●    Detailed written report and development plan: £170 + VAT

Total: £990

This work will provide a professional assessment of the site, engagement with pupils and staff, and recommendations for creating a nature-rich, inclusive, and sustainable playground.

Why are we fundraising for a consultation?

A few people have asked why we’re fundraising for a consultation before raising money for the playground itself.

The simple answer is that most major grant funders won’t consider applications without a professionally led consultation and concept design. They want to see evidence that the project has been carefully planned, reflects the views of pupils, staff, parents and the wider community, and has a clear vision.

The £990 we’re raising will fund this essential first step with Learning Through Landscapes. The consultation will gather ideas from pupils, staff, parents and the wider community, while the concept design will show what the transformed playground could look like and provide an estimated cost for the project. This information is essential when applying for grants, as funders want to know exactly what is being delivered and how much funding is needed.

Think of this as the key that unlocks future funding. By investing in this stage now, we’ll be in a much stronger position to secure the significant grants needed to create a safe, inspiring and inclusive outdoor space for current and future pupils, as well as the wider community.
