Aim

We need to replace one of our greengrocer buses that provides access to fresh produce to people living in food deserts across Liverpool.

The Queen of Greens

The Queen of Greens is our mobile greengrocer, delivered in partnership with Feeding Liverpool. Operating from a bus filled with fresh fruit and vegetables, it travels directly into communities across Liverpool and Knowsley, making affordable, healthy food more accessible to local residents.

The service was created to address the need for access to fresh, affordable fruit and vegetables across the Liverpool City Region. Limited food retail, high prices and restricted transport options mean that in some areas it’s easier to buy a vape than an apple. Each week the service supports over 460 families to access fresh fruit and vegetables. The Queen of Greens offers a practical, dignified alternative by bringing fresh fruit and vegetables to the communities we work with.

“The bus helps me to put food on my table that I otherwise wouldn’t be able to get due to financial limitations.” - Queen of Greens customer

“We eat better because of the bus. I worry about the kids eating sugar, which is what all the deals and offers are centered around at the supermarket.” - Queen of Greens customer

Why are we crowdfunding?

We are back in a position where one of our buses has become unusable and now needs replacing. Without two buses on the road, we simply cannot reach all 23 stops meaning families are at risk of losing reliable access to fresh fruit and vegetables.

We're applying for grants, but very few funders support vehicle costs and those that do often take months to make decisions. Communities need us now, not in six months. Crowdfunding is the fastest, most direct way to keep Queen of Greens running.

Every penny raised will go straight towards purchasing a new bus.

How your support will be used

  • Replacing our broken bus - A reliable vehicle keeps our full route running and ensures we reach every community we currently support.
  • Strengthening long‑term resilience - A new bus means we can continue delivering dignified, accessible food without the constant risk of breakdowns giving us stability and reduces financial strain of ongoing repairs.
  • Improved health and wellbeing - Regular access to fresh fruit and veg helps people across the Liverpool City Region eat well. Children get early, positive experiences with fresh produce, and adults can more easily manage diet‑related health conditions.
  • Strengthen financial wellbeing - Selling loose fruit and veg means people can buy only what they need, avoiding waste and unnecessary spending. Bringing the service directly into communities also cuts travel costs to supermarkets. With reliable access to affordable produce, families can stretch their budgets further while still eating well.

How you can help

There are two simple ways to get involved and support our project:

1. Make a donation - Every pledge gets us closer to our goal. Early support can help build momentum and inspire others to give too. Donations will be match-funded by Aviva up to £250 per donation (One donation per person).

Donate early and you could bag a reward too, from an Alchemic Kitchen tote bag at £20 (£40 once matched) to having your name on our new bus at £250 (£500 once matched), plus treats from local businesses including Queen of Greens, We Grow Co, Homebaked, Bundobust, Moonshine Tattoo, Liverpool Gin Distillery and the Liverpool Cheese Company. Rewards are limited to the first donors in each tier.

We are incredibly grateful to the local businesses supporting us with these rewards! Because quantities are limited, we kindly ask that you limit yourself to one reward per person so more people get a chance to participate.

2. Spread the word - Share our project with friends, family and your wider network. The more people we reach, the more likely we are to succeed.

Thank you for taking the time to read about our project. We appreciate any support you can give.

Who are we?

Alchemic Kitchen is a food action project working across the Liverpool City Region to create a fairer, healthier and more sustainable local food system. We work to address food injustice, strengthen local resilience and ensure that good food is available, accessible and valued in every neighbourhood.

Our team works alongside residents, community organisations and local partners to:

  • Increase access to fresh, affordable fruit and vegetables
  • Build practical skills in cooking, growing and reducing waste
  • Support community‑led change that tackles food injustice

Everything we do is rooted in listening, collaboration and long‑term commitment to the communities we work with.
