Our project aims to help people build financial resilience, reduce bills to affordable levels and manage existing debt more effectively.
Who are we, and what is our project about?
OUR ORGANISATION
Citizens Advice Reigate and Banstead provides free, confidential, and impartial advice that empowers individuals to resolve problems while reducing pressure on public services. Our mission is to transform lives - practically, financially and emotionally, by tackling poverty, exclusion and disadvantage. Our advisers help people to resolve urgent issues such as debt, housing insecurity, benefit claims, family breakdown, and consumer rights.

WHY THE PROJECT MATTERS TO US
Many of our clients live on low incomes with little scope to increase earnings, often because of disability, long-term health conditions, or caring responsibilities. A large number live in areas that fall into the top 50% of the UK Index of Multiple Deprivation, including the communities of Hooley, Merstham & Netherne, Tattenham Corner & Preston, Horley Central & South and Redhill West & Wray Common. Of these, Hooley, Merstham & Netherne is the most deprived area in Surrey*. In this community 36.8% pensioners are in poverty, 15% of children are in absolute low-income families and 16.4% of households are ‘overcrowded’.

HOW WE HELP
Our advisers help people at our offices in Redhill and Banstead, at community centres such as the Merstham Community Hub, and remotely by phone and online. To support improving financial wellbeing, our advice helps people to reduce bills to affordable levels, manage existing debt more effectively, and build financial resilience.
HOW OUR PROJECT FITS THE FUNDING CRITERIA ‘FINANCIAL WELLBEING’
For many our clients, building financial capability and resilience is key to moving from crisis management towards stability. With advice from our team people are better able to make informed decisions, avoid unmanageable debt and achieve greater financial security. In turn, this reduces stress, improves wellbeing, and strengthens resilience, outcomes that benefit not only individuals and families, but also the wider community by reducing pressure on statutory and voluntary services.
Why are we crowdfunding?
WHY WE ARE RAISING MONEY
We are raising money towards the operating costs our project 'Helping people to build financial resilience'. This project aims to support people at community centres such as the Mersham Community Hub, from our offices in Redhill and Banstead, and remotely by phone and online.
THE DIFFERENCE IT WILL MAKE
Our advice helps people to reduce bills to affordable levels, manage existing debt more effectively, and build financial resilience. This in turn can lead to positive changes for some of the most disadvantaged people in our community, including reduction in stress and improvement in wellbeing.

How we’ll spend the money raised
Our aim is to raise £8,000 towards the operating costs our project 'Helping people to build financial resilience'. Our outreach support is provided at community centres such as the Merstham Community Hub, and is managed by our Community Outreach Manager and supported by our volunteers. Costs for the project include the training and travel costs for our volunteers, and the salary and overheads costs for our Community Outreach Manager.
How you can help
There are three simple ways to get involved and support our project:
1. Make a donation
Every pledge gets us closer to our goal. Early support can help build momentum and inspire others to give too.
2. Spread the word
Share our project with friends, family and your wider network. The more people we reach, the more likely we are to succeed.
3. Volunteer with us
You can make a real difference in our community by volunteering with Citizens Advice Reigate and Banstead. Our team of volunteers are vital to the work we do.
