Aim
We plan to build a small community hub within the 48 acre site of K-Woodlands, creating a welcoming space.
Who are we, and what is our project about?
We are a community-led organisation working to create positive, lasting change for people in and around East Kilbride. We believe that communities are stronger when people have access to welcoming, affordable and accessible spaces where they can meet, learn, get support and work together.
Our project is to develop a community hub at K-Woodlands — a shared space that can bring local people, community groups and organisations together. The hub will provide a place for activities, workshops, advice, community events and opportunities that respond to the needs and priorities of local residents.
This project matters to us because we want K-Woodlands to be a place where everyone has the opportunity to participate, connect with others and build a better future. By creating a permanent community resource, we can provide benefits that go beyond individual activities and help build a stronger, more connected community.
K-Woodlands Hub will be a community base for practical climate action, helping local people prevent, prepare for and adapt to climate change. The hub will support activities including sustainable food growing, repair and reuse, waste reduction, energy-saving advice and sharing practical skills. It will provide a space for workshops and community projects that build awareness and resilience around extreme heat, flooding, food insecurity and energy costs. By bringing residents and local organisations together, the hub will encourage collective solutions to local environmental challenges. It will make climate action accessible, practical and community-led, helping create a more resilient, sustainable neighbourhood.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We are crowdfunding to help us turn our plans for the K-Woodlands community hub into reality.
There is a real need for accessible community space where local people can come together, access opportunities and take part in activities that improve their quality of life. Having a dedicated hub will allow us to build on our existing work and create a consistent, welcoming space for the community.
The money raised will help us meet the costs of developing and running the hub and make sure that it is equipped and ready to serve local people.
Every donation, no matter the size, will help us move one step closer to creating a sustainable community hub at K-Woodlands. Most importantly, your support will help us create a space that belongs at the heart of the community and can make a positive difference for years to come.
How we’ll spend the money raised
We want to be open and transparent about how your support will be used. Funds raised through this campaign will contribute towards the practical costs of establishing and running the K-Woodlands community hub.
Our key costs include:
- £5000 – Equipment and furnishings to make the hub welcoming, accessible and suitable for community activities
- £3000 – Building and project costs to help prepare and develop the hub
- £2000 – Overheads and administration to help get the hub up and running
If we exceed our original fundraising target, any additional funds will be used to further develop the K-Woodlands hub and increase its benefit to the community. This could include staff costs, additional equipment, improving the space, supporting environmental and educational activities such bug/bird identifications, pond preservation, community gardening, habitat work, and providing more opportunities for local people to volunteer and take positive climate action.
We will use the money raised carefully and responsibly, prioritising the costs that have the greatest direct benefit for the community.
How you can help
There are three simple ways to get involved and support the K-Woodlands community hub:
1. Make a donation
Every donation brings us closer to our fundraising target. Whether you give £5, £20 or more, your contribution will help us create a valuable community resource and build momentum around the project.
2. Spread the word
Tell your friends, family, colleagues and wider network about the project. Share our crowdfunding page on social media and encourage others to support us. The more people who hear about K-Woodlands, the stronger our community campaign will become.
3. Volunteer with us
We also welcome people who would like to contribute their time, skills or expertise. Whether you can help with community activities, events, practical work or simply want to get involved, we'd love to hear from you.
Please get in touch through the Contact section using the subject "I want to volunteer my time or expertise" on our project page.
Together, we can make K-Woodlands a welcoming, active and sustainable hub at the heart of the community.
