To deliver financial wellbeing support that empowers people living with complex mental health to manage money & build financial resilience

About CAPE

CAPE is a community-led organisation dedicated to improving the lives of people experiencing enduring and complex mental health challenges. We provide person-centred support that helps individuals build confidence, develop life skills and reconnect with their communities. Our work focuses on practical, everyday support that enables people to live more independently and with greater wellbeing.

Who’s behind the project and why it matters

This project is led by the CAPE team, alongside people with lived experience of mental health challenges who shape and co-design our services. We see first-hand how financial stress can worsen mental health, creating a cycle that is hard to break. This work matters deeply to us because we know that with the right support, people can regain control, confidence and hope.

How the project fits the ‘Financial Wellbeing’ criteria

Our project directly supports financial wellbeing by equipping people with the knowledge, tools and confidence to manage their finances effectively. We focus on budgeting, managing debt, understanding benefits and planning for the future, helping individuals make informed financial decisions that improve both their financial stability and mental wellbeing. We will also support people with welfare benefit applications and appeals.

Why we’re raising money and the difference it will make

People living with long-term mental health challenges often face significant barriers to managing money, including fluctuating capacity, limited access to tailored support and increased vulnerability to debt and financial exclusion.

This funding will enable us to deliver a structured programme of financial wellbeing support, including one-to-one sessions, group workshops, and ongoing practical guidance. It will help people feel more in control of their finances, reduce anxiety and build resilience for the future.

By supporting this project, you will help individuals move from crisis and uncertainty towards stability, confidence and independence.

The challenge and how we’ll create positive change

Financial difficulty and mental health are closely linked. Many people we support struggle with budgeting, debt and navigating complex systems like benefits and banking. Without the right support, this can lead to worsening mental health, isolation and crisis.

Our project tackles this by providing accessible, tailored financial support designed specifically for people with complex mental health needs. Through practical tools, compassionate guidance and peer-informed delivery, we will create lasting change, helping people build skills that improve both their financial situation and overall wellbeing.

How we’ll spend the money raised

This funding will help us run a series of sessions to support people with budgeting, saving, and planning for the future.

We will use the £25,000 to deliver:

Specialist staff time to provide one-to-one financial guidance and group workshops

Training and resources tailored to people with mental health challenges

Peer support involvement, ensuring lived experience shapes delivery

Outreach and engagement to reach those most in need

Monitoring and evaluation to measure impact and improve outcomes

How you can help

There are two simple ways to get involved and support our project:

1. Make a donation
Every pledge gets us closer to our goal. Early support can help build momentum and inspire others to give too.

2. Spread the word
Share our project with friends, family and your wider network. The more people we reach, the more likely we are to succeed.
