We’re raising funds to help refugee/migrant adults facing poverty and exclusion build confidence, skills, social connection and pathways.
Who are we, and what is our project about?
Afrocats is a community-led cultural organisation based in Greater Manchester, working alongside refugee, migrant and global majority communities. Through culturally responsive programmes, we support people facing poverty, social isolation and exclusion from employment to rebuild confidence, skills and connection.
For more information, check out our website here: https://www.afrocats.org.uk/

Why are we crowdfunding?
We are crowdfunding for ‘New Routes to Financial Wellbeing,’ a 12-month community project supporting around 100 refugee and migrant adults experiencing financial hardship, including people with no recourse to public funds (NRPF). The project delivers community-based financial wellbeing and progression sessions covering topics including budgeting and managing limited income, understanding banking and bills, digital skills, accessing local support services, communication and confidence-building, and pathways into volunteering, training and employment.
Alongside peer support and progression opportunities, sessions will help participants reduce isolation, strengthen social connections and build confidence navigating systems and opportunities linked to longer-term financial wellbeing. Many people we work with are living in temporary accommodation, unable to access mainstream support and face long-term barriers to employment and stability. This funding will help create safe, inclusive spaces where participants can develop practical skills, confidence and resilience for the future.

How we’ll spend the money raised
Our sessions will cover practical topics including budgeting and managing limited income, understanding banking and bills, accessing local support services, digital confidence, communication skills, employability support and progression opportunities. Participants will also take part in peer learning, problem-solving activities and discussions that strengthen confidence and social connection.
A typical session will include a welcome check-in, a practical workshop focused on a financial wellbeing topic, small-group discussion, peer support activities and signposting to local services, volunteering or training opportunities.
Our participants say:
‘Being here, I was able to apply for many volunteering roles; I wouldn’t have done it if I were at home’.
'It was a chance to gain the skills I need to navigate the digital world more independently'
