Aim

For 16 yrs we have delivered money advice projects supporting thousands of disadvantaged people. We need help to ensure our work continues.

Who we are and what our project is about.

Noah's Ark Centre (NAC) is a mental health and debt / money charity founded over two decades ago. We work to improve the lives, social conditions and financial wellbeing of our clients through our various projects.

Debt and money advice is far more than a financial intervention. It is the catalyst for wider change, helping people overcome financial hardship, improve their health and wellbeing, strengthen family relationships, build resilience, and participate more fully in community life. As a trusted community anchor, our charity supports people to regain confidence, stability, and hope, creating lasting benefits for individuals, families, and the wider community.

Our holistic model means advice is rarely delivered in isolation. A typical client will access multiple elements of our service. This integrated approach is our unique strength. We currently offer:

* Complex debt and money advice

* Complex benefits advice, including specialist support for MacMillan Cancer clients

* Financial capability training

* Temporary food and energy support

* Provision of essential white goods and furniture

* Provision of carpets and floor coverings

Our money advice project was created 16 years ago and what began as a sole volunteer led project, is now a professional, specialist service employing multiple staff members, most of whom are former debt advice clients.

Our project is very outcome driven and over the years we've come to understand just how impactful we've been in people's lives. For us, our work isn't just another job, it's a true and genuine vocation, a calling. The idea that it would end because of a lack of funding, would be a painful, bitter pill to swallow.

Grant Soames, Strategic Lead at Calderdale Council said of us: “The work you and your team do continues to push boundaries and deliver outstanding outcomes. Your ability to engage with people, understand their needs, and make such a significant difference truly showcases the quality of your provision.”

Why we are crowdfunding

The current funding environment for projects like ours is quite challenging. In 2026 we had annual funding of more than £250,000 ending and we are struggling to replace it. Going into 2027 we will have a shortfall of around £80,000 that we need to fill.

NAC is located within North Halifax, an area where several wards fall within the top 10% most deprived in the UK, with some neighbourhoods ranked within the top 5%. The majority of our clients live within these wards and experience entrenched poverty, poor health outcomes, and multiple, intersecting barriers to support.

NAC is completely unique: an absolute pioneer in the voluntary sector. Over the past nine years, our team has supported more than 2,500 Calderdale families to become debt free, writing off over £35,000,000 of unmanageable debt. In addition, in the last 7 years we have delivered more than 150 'Budget Like a Boss!!!!' budgeting courses, equipping people with the skills and confidence to avoid falling back into crisis.

Debt and poor financial resilience are destructive. They damage mental health, destabilise families, and trap people in cycles of poverty. High-quality money and debt advice, with wrap around support, has the opposite effect: it restores hope, stability, and dignity. Our project has extensive evidence demonstrating this impact.

One client told us: “It’s taken a while to sink in. I’ve been so worried for so long, it’s surreal not to wake up petrified and fall asleep crying. Heartfelt gratitude to you for being you and doing the job you do.”

One of my favourite pieces of feedback is from a young mum we helped access a wheelchair for her daughter through our small grants project:

“I came to Noah's Ark a couple of years ago for debt support: they were brilliant, loving and kind. You mix with people you wouldn't normally mix with on the budgeting course and that brings the community closer. Then last year my daughter needed a wheelchair. I was overwhelmed by forms and questionnaires; it was like fighting for a seat at the top of the table. I reached out to Noah's Ark for support; my daughter had her wheelchair within 4 days!  Noah’s Ark will always hold a special place to Ovenden and surrounding areas, we wouldn't be who we are without them because no job is too big and nobody is too small.”

How we’ll spend the money raised

We have a significant funding shortfall and the money raised will be used to help fill that gap. Our largest overhead is our salary costs, and we're desperate to avoid losing our staff (we've invested heavily in them over the years, and they have a unique skill set that our community needs).

How you can help

1. Make a donation

Every pledge gets us closer to our goal. Early support can help build momentum and inspire others to give too.

2. Spread the word

Share our project with friends, family and your wider network. The more people we reach, the more likely we are to succeed.
