To inspire and promote learning about nature, the environment and sustainable living whilst having a positive impact on health and wellbeing
Who are we, and what is our project about?
Scotswood Natural Community Garden is a two‑acre urban wildlife haven in Newcastle’s West End. For 30 years, we’ve helped people connect with nature, improve their wellbeing and take meaningful climate action.
Our small team and incredible volunteers care for the garden, grow thousands of pollinator‑friendly plants, support local schools, and deliver nature‑based activities for the whole community. Last year we welcomed 2,000+ children, supported 92 volunteers, and grew 13,000 plants for community spaces across the city.
We’re applying under Climate Action because everything we do strengthens biodiversity, builds climate resilience and empowers people to live more sustainably.
Why are we crowdfunding?
Core funding is increasingly hard to secure, yet it’s what keeps the garden open, safe and thriving. Without it, we can’t run volunteer sessions, maintain habitats, support schools, or deliver the climate‑positive work our community depends on.
Your support will help us protect this vital green space and ensure more people can take part in hands‑on climate action.

How we’ll spend the money raised
Your donations will go directly towards essential running costs, including:
Staff time to run sessions and support volunteers
Tools, materials and repairs to care for the garden
Utilities and insurance to keep the site open
Sustainable growing supplies for biodiversity projects
Every contribution helps us protect nature, support our community and grow a greener future.
How you can help
There are two simple ways to get involved and support our project:
1. Make a donation
Every pledge gets us closer to our goal. Early support can help build momentum and inspire others to give too.
2. Spread the word
Share our project with friends, family and your wider network. The more people we reach, the more likely we are to succeed.
If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you.
