To introduce the award winning service we run for stroke survivors in hospitals, to Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital.
We would like to extend the work we have done with stroke survivors over the past 20 years, in the rest of the UK, to the people of Northern Ireland.
Your support will help us recruit and train a team of professional actors to deliver our multi-award winning service to patients recovering from a stroke.
At InterAct Stroke Support Belfast, we work particularly to -
Improve mood and thus motivation
Provide the mental stimulation that has been shown to help the brain create new neural pathways around damaged areas - a phenomenon known as "adaptive rewiring"
We plan to start work in the Acute Stroke Unit, Wards 6E & F of the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast later this year.
Patients themselves are the best indicators of the success of our work -
"If you do for other people a quarter of what you've done for me..."
"Brilliant. Well read. that's cheered me up no end"
"It's wonderful what you do. You really cheered me up. I could tell you're an actor. You really brought it to life"
"That raised my spirits" "A great way to use the time - makes you think about things"
“I think that your group does more good than you realise in helping others”
