Aim

Opening Tennis up to families across rural and disadvantaged areas in Scotland-investing in local people to lead and deliver, changing lives.

Our Vision

The Judy Murray Foundation is not about producing elite tennis players. Judy has already done that, thank you. No, the vision of the JMF is for something even bigger. It concerns the well-being of children and parents. It seeks to improve the health of a nation. It is profoundly serious. And fun.  #EveryoneForTennis #EverywhereForTennis

Our Why

Judy wanted to capitalise on the buzz her sons have created in Scotland over the years by growing the game in places you might not expect to find it. She has a huge passion for tennis and for teaching it to all ages and stages and as a mother of two world tennis number 1's  she fondly remembers playing with Andy and Jamie

“My kids were always really active and as a family we became pretty good at creating our own games both in the house, the backyard and the garden. I remember playing Balloon tennis across the sofa in our living room and kitchen table tennis with cereal boxes for the net and biscuit tin lids for bats. It’s all about using what you have and making up your own rules and scoring systems. All parents need are some basic, everyday objects, a child who wants to play and someone who wants to play with them.  It is that straightforward!”

Our Background

Formed in October 2017, the Judy Murray Foundation has been taking tennis to rural and disadvantaged areas across Scotland. The foundation was formed by Judy Murray OBE.

The vision statement is simple: ‘Everyone for Tennis, Everywhere for Tennis’. There is both passion and purpose in this. Our mission is to build community-based workforces to grow participation whilst improving peoples health, well-being and a sense of belonging. Our aim is to extract the best from everyone that comes to a JMF session whether they be a grandparent, a mum or dad, an aspiring young coach or simply a child who wants to try tennis.

Our ambition is to have fun while making a serious difference.

How we do it?

We develop meaningful relationships and create opportunities for children and adults to try tennis by building workforces in local communities; training  parents, local people and others to deliver fun starter coaching and competition in whatever space they have available encouraging communities to use their own assets to improve their life and place.

Feedback from communities

“It is fun playing with the children instead of just letting them play by themselves” PARENT

“I never knew I could have so much fun with my child” PARENT

“I’ve never done this much exercises since I was a kid. Never thought I could play tennis, I love it” PARENT

“They normally come in, try something and leave after half an hour but they are all engaged and having fun” TEACHER

“This is so simple and we can all do it. I never thought to use balloons.” PARENT

“We could definitely teach this, a lot of it is like other sports and it is fun for the kids” TEACHER

“I’ve never played this sport before. We only get to play football. Can I keep the racket. I love this game” CHILD

Why we need your help?

We are looking for support to scale up our  #TennisForEveryone Family Programme  from 5 communities to 10 reaching thousands of more families across Scotland.  We believe that every person regardless of age, culture, race or social status should have access to tennis opportunities.  And our proposed project is responsive to the growing need and demand for accessible tennis opportunities that are community led- free, fun and on the door step.
