Victoria Gardens - YYI
Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom
Aim
The Victoria Garden is about integrating communities through growing local produce, socialising and outdoor learning.
The Victoria Garden is the latest project of the Dundee based charity, Yusuf Youth Initiative. The Garden is 10,000 sq ft of urban ground space boasting a wild-growing space, fruit trees, a range of fruit and vegetables on raised beds, and a large polytunnel. The garden also has a pond, a planned large covered outdoor space (being built-in end of 2020), and ground space for various activities. We engage with local community groups, schools, art groups, vulnerable adults, and young people. We aim to bring people from all backgrounds to come together, socialise, and learn.
The grant funding will help us build an outdoor pergola at 1000 sq ft to host outdoor events. The current pandemic has pushed people more outdoors, engaging in the natural environment, and also growing their own produce. We have had a lot of interest in the garden but restricted due to the beautiful Scottish weather we have. The rain cover provided by the pergola will still give us a feeling of being outdoors but with the support of a rain cover. We aim to run a number of social and learning events from this space.
